Setting options for copying CDs

You can set the following options by using the Copy Music tab:

To access the Copy Music tab

The following options are listed on the Copy Music tab:

Copy music to this location

Specifies where audio files are stored when you copy them from a CD. By default, your files are stored in the My Music folder.

Change

Click to change where audio files are stored.

File Name

Click to select the information that appears in the file name of tracks that you copy from CDs.

Format

Lists the types of Windows Media files in which you can copy CD tracks. By default, the available options are Windows Media Audio, Windows Media Audio (variable bit rate), and Windows Media Audio Lossless.

Copy protect music

Specifies whether tracks copied from CDs in Windows Media Audio format are protected files. A license is required to play protected files. Licenses help protect the copyrights of artists by preventing illegal distribution. Selecting this check box may prevent you from playing the tracks on another computer.

Note that you should back up your licenses to a floppy disk periodically. If you reinstall or upgrade your operating system, your licenses could be lost even though you retained your protected files.

Copy CD when inserted

Specifies that CDs are automatically copied to Media Library when inserted into the CD-ROM drive. This feature enables you to copy several CDs in succession, especially if both this check box and the Eject CD when copying is completed check box are selected.

You can play the CD while it is being copied.

Eject CD when copying is completed

Specifies that CDs are automatically ejected when the Player has finished copying them. This feature enables you to copy several CDs in succession without having to eject each CD manually.

You can play the CD while it is being copied, but playback stops when copying is completed and the CD is ejected.

Audio quality

Adjusts the compression quality when you copy CD tracks to your computer as Windows Media Audio files. Copying tracks at a higher quality requires lower compression, a higher bit rate, and more disk space. The sound quality decreases the more the tracks are compressed.
